Birthday Colors…

chartMost of us are somewhat familiar with our astrological birth sign (I’m a Pisces). But, do you know your Colorstrology birthday color? Using a combination of astrology and numerology Michele Bernhardt has determined a specific Panatone color to correspond with your birthday.

I’m not so sure about my color, Winter sky 14-4307? but…Talented, Aesthetic and Resourceful sounds wonderful. What is your birthday color?

Color Meditations…

12 color meditationGuided meditations can elicit illuminating insights and have profound healing effects. In my search to find an appropriate color- centric meditation for healing broken bones, I came across two very interesting sights =

  • myth   allows you to choose a color, provides key words describing the meaning of the chosen color and has the option for you to fill your monitor screen with that color for a two minute color interlude
  • WizardNow.com has a twelve color meditation that is available as a MP3 download

Wishing you, colorful dreams along with the encouragement to explore the meaning of your favorite colors- hope you have a colorful day!

Additive Color Game…

colorsHere is another fun on-line color game   at Eyehook, where one garners points by choosing the correct additive color mixtures. The next time you decide to take a break and play solitaire- you might want to check this one out.

I continue to be amazed by the sheer volume of web sites and blogs that are color centric. I can imagine that one could spends hours picking and re-picking paint colors for a home decorating project on-line….before even making it to the paint store. I look forward to seeing even more incredible interactive color design tools  as the technology develops.

Playing With Swatches…

swatches.jpg Well Styled is a site designed for web designers that features a page where you can select a color from the color wheel palette and then find “matching” colors to go with your first selection. One feature that I found fascinating was the ability to  view the color scheme as pastels or desaturated versions.

Playing with colors on screen is very different than playing with mixed polymer clay colors…but the ability to explore dozens of combinations in less than ten minutes = enjoyable mini-surf on the way to being WellStyled.

Name That Color…

purple burstI’ve been doing a whole lot of web surfing the past few days (it is one of the few things I can do comfortably for the time being) and came across  Phernalia that has an interactive color wheel, that allows you to move your mouse pointer around and reveals the “name” of the color underneath. It is available as a Java Script download.

I have always been fascinated by how colors get their names. Chirag Mehta indicates that he used Crayola, Wikipedia and a paint companies reference chart to come up with the names for the colors.

I’m not sure how RGB 113.70.147 was named “Affair”?  Food for the imagination…

Rainbows…

People RainbowJust as there are “foodies”, there are those who consider themselves “Color Lovers” Here is a picture of a human rainbow. Which is quite impressive if one considers just how difficult it is to get just five people to line up for a photo!

It is amazing where one will end up when surfing the web. Today’s search for “Color Lovers” directed me to a totally delicious blog = Color + Design by Coulour lovers. I especially enjoyed the color scheme analysis of the colors in tropical fish and frogs. There is even a place where you can submit your own color schemes for feedback and interactive quizzes.

And the Winner Is?…

blueviolet1.jpegWhen I was in sixth grade my art teacher asked our class “what is your favorite color?”.  My response then and now was purple. One of  my fellow class mates promptly opined that purple would shortly be out of fashion…

Thankfully, purple has never gone out of fashion. Certainly there have been years when specific variations of the hue have been more popular- eggplant, lavender, deep red-violet, electric violet- among others have shared the spotlight.

Panatone has just announced the color of the year for 2008= Blue Iris  (18-3943) aka one of my favorite purples and the subject of an interesting post on Sensational Color.

Even if you don’t particularly like purple- chances are that there is a specific variation = redder, bluer, more desaturated, super  saturated, lighter or darker in value – that will work well for you when designing color schemes.

Thanks to Cynthia Tinapple for reminding me about Sensational Color…I’m less “blue” and more purple now!

I’ve Gone High-Tech…

I will be taking a break from posting for awhile…last Thursday I slipped on an icy sidewalk and broke a bone in my back. Luckily, it is a fixed fracture of T2, surgery is unlikely  and there was no damage to my spinal cord.

For now…I look very “high-tech”  (actually more like someone in a hockey based horror film), my brace runs from my belly button to the middle of my head. I am looking forward to a speedy uneventful recovery…and return to the blog-o-sphere.

“Low Tech” Bead Tray…

index card bead trayI’ve found for baking and laying out beads low tech works best. I was introduced to the folded file folder or index card bead baking tray by Victoria Hughes in 1989 and have continued to prefer this simple tool over some of the more elaborate devices available. I even have a tray made of poster board that holds ten necklaces at at time. The center and quarter points are marked with a Sharpie.

These simple re-usable bead trays are great in a classroom setting, as students can put their names on their trays of beads and multiple layers may be stacked in the oven for curing.
