Color of YOUR music…

MoodyHere is a colorful download, Moody,  that allows you to color code your Ipod tunes, available in in Mac or PC format. You first tag your iTunes songs in mood according to the Moody colors. Horizontally the mood goes from sad to happy and vertically from calm to intense music (or make up your own system). When your songs are tagged you can play songs not only by a specific album, artist or genre, but also by the mood you’re in.

Does red mean red-hot rock and roll = Bonnie Raitt? Or romantic, passionate music? or does red mean root chakra music ala Ancient Future or Jonathan Goldman?  Seemingly one would have to make a lot of colorful decisions on just how to classify musical pieces via color coding. I remain skeptical of the poster in the forum who indicated that he tagged 20gigs in under two hours…
What color would you tag Jefferson’s Starships “Blows  Against the Empire”? or Vivaldi”s Four Seasons?

Colorful Illusions…

magic illusionRemember the Magic Eye series of books?…OK, I’m probably dating myself here. I have always found optical illusions fascinating, especially those that challenge our perceptions of color. Adjacent colors can radically alter our perception of a color. Here is an interesting “color tile” optical illusion found on BoingBoing.net.

The “blue” tiles on the top face of the left cube are the same color as the “yellow” tiles in the top of the right cube.

Colorful Spring…

arrowmont2.jpgI will be teaching a one week intensive workshop on color = Textile Inspirations in Polymer Clay at The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee the week of April 6th-12th., 2008. “Immerse yourself in this illuminating workshop designed to increase yourcolor confidence inspired by classical textile patterns. Although the primary medium of this workshop is polymer clay, it is ideal for anyone- whether you work with watercolors, colored pencils, collage, fibers or polymer clay. Learn the secret to making successful “skinny skinners” that will be used to make nine different laminated textile patterns including the log cabin quilt design, spirals, Seminole patchwork, Bargello, and a variation of nine patch. Also leave with a series of wearable color samples, including brooches, earrings and a necklace. “For more registration information= Arrowmont.

The Color of Music…

keysJust as we as an artistic community have Polymer Clay Daily, psychologists have Cognitive Daily a site  I found via ResearchBlogging.org . Perhaps there is a site = readingtoomanyblogsdaily.org?

Do music and color go together? How different or similar are color associations with certain genres of music? There is a “color” quiz  posted there where you are asked to listen to eight short audio clips and then say what color you associate with each piece of music. This is your chance to participate in colorful research, the results will be posted on Friday February 8th on their site.
