Colorful Fall Leaves…

I came across this interesting article on the science of fall leaf colors, by Nick Schmedding who is a staff reporter for the William and Mary College on line daily newspaper. I never really though about it, but each kind of tree turns a different color in the fall…

“Sweetgum: at first yellow, then turning red-purple
Red maple: bright scarlet
Dogwood: red-purple
American beech: yellow-tan
Sassafras: almost anything, yellow or red-purple
Tulip Poplar: brilliant golden yellow”

So far, not too much Fall color here in the Washington , DC area, yet.

so far no color here in Bakersfield, Ca. either. Heck, we are still having day temps of high 80’s. It is neat to read the list of trees and their leaf colors. thanks for sharing. ps…my mom went to William and Mary.
