Colourful Paint…

paintchipsI adore collecting and playing with paint chips…not only are the “free” , they offer the opportunity to play with different color combinations and to make small chip  collages of  possible color combinations.  And nowdays one can play with color chips online…

Many paint manufacturers have launched increasingly sophisticated interactive web sites designed to make consumers feel more confident about making color decisions while buying paint. “Helping Find the Colours You Love” is a comprehensive take on this by Dulux Paint.

The Dulux Paint UK site has several fascinating features  to help organize their  12,000 colours

  • There are four color palettes = Rich, Fresh,Warm and Calm
  • Color Inspirations via short video clips, photos and trend reports
  • There is a place to save your favorite chips for future browsing
  • How to match a red chair… and other tips

One way to help you refine your polymer clay mixing skills is to select a paint chip and then challenge yourself to make an exact match. It is possible that you may have to do this in several steps…and sometimes missing the mark can be even more illuminating if you can identify the adjustments that need to be made in terms of hue, value and saturation.

Another  approach is to mix a color you like and then try and see if you can spot the paint color chip that is closest to your mixture on the Dulux site …

  • What name has been given to that color? Do you find the name appropriate, evocative or “geez” I’d give it another name?
  • Are you attracted to any of the suggested colour combinations (right click on the colour chip on a PC)
  • Are there other colors in the same colour palette (rich, warm, fresh or calm) that you think would make for great combinations? Try saving the chips to your favorites
  • Check out the corresponding (rich, warm, fresh or calm)   neutrals? Would any of those colors make for a wonderful color scheme?

Have a colorful August day…and if you have time check out the stunning late night Northern Hemispheres meteor showers…
